Out of My Mind
Sharon M. Draper
“I haven’t said a word so far. I’m almost eleven years old.”
This is a novel which will be read breathlessly with sadness but also with hope. It is inspired by a true life story by award-winning, Coratta Scott King, one of Britain’s most prestigious literary awards, writer Sharon M. Draper. Melody, 11, has a disease called Spastic binary quadripleggia, which means cerebral palsy. He can’t walk, he can’t talk, he’s obliged to live depending to a wheelchair. This little girl, who can’t command any of her limbs, has a perfect functioning brain. The story tells Melody’s efforts to prove herself to her teachers, friends, neighbors, briefly to the outside world. This is a subtle, naïve, fluid, funny and inspiring work. I recommend this book ,which will allow you to look at life from a different perspective, to everyone. Are you ready to meet this brave girl whose voice you’ll never forget?
İlber Ortaylı Seyahatnamesi
İlber Ortaylı
Ilber Ortaylı, whose works and opinions we closely follow, says “It is inevitable to understand south Russia and the Caucasus in the north, Iran and India to the east, Syria, Palestine and Mesopotamia to the south, as well as the Balkans and Mediterranean countries to learn about an important geography and historical field like Turkey.” Ilber Ortaylı is not only a big name of our historianship, but also a traveler who has traveled from Central Asia to Europe, from the Caucasus to the Middle East for 50 years with a small suitcase and guidebooks. When his knowledge and the desire to travel are combined, a great book emerges. The geographies that we will travel with the narrative power of Ilber Ortaylı, who conveys the most important notes from the numerous journeys he has made, are as follows: Syria, Jordan, Israel, Iran, Azerbaijan, Russia, Crimea, Uzbekistan, Danube, Bosnia, Macedonia, Albania, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo, Hungary, Romania, Old Austria, Greece, Italy, Malta, Spain, Portugal, Lithuania, Estonia, Sweden, India, Japan and Singapore. If you’re someone who likes to travel and learn, make sure to add this book to your list.
Öğretmenim Bir Bakar Mısın?
Doğan Cüceloğlu
In our age when technology is changing all areas of our lives, the education system, which is a milestone in personality development after family education, is also changing. However, for the things about which we say that they do not change, Dogan Cuceoglu has brought such a comment.. No matter what education system he/she is in, no matter how much technology develops, there is a moment when the teacher meets the student. This book describes the power of the moment when the teacher makes an eye contact with the student. At that moment, the teacher enters the student’s heart and reaches to his mind. And that’s when the training begins. Teacher’s power builds thousands of lives. Like other books of Dogan Cüceoglu, it is one of the books that must be found in your library.
Delivering Happiness
Tony Hsieh
This book by Tony Hsieh, which tells an e-commerce success story that has not fallen off the bestseller list for a long time in the United States, is one of my favorite books in 2019Tony Hsieh created Zappos, the world’s largest shoe-selling website, from scratch, and sold Zappos for $1.2 billion in 2009. This wasn’t the first time for him. Tony had previously created LinkExchange, of which he was one of his founding partners, from scratch and sold it to Microsoft for $265 million. It was very, very important for him to explore the works he did passionately, consistent with the purpose of life, but at the same time he would profit. He chased them from childhood and finally succeeded. Here, in the book of Delivering Happiness Tony describes the lessons in his work and personal life in his fluent and enjoyable style as his journey from the worm farm he established as a child business to Zappos. In the book you will find the story of how the author discovered his passion, examples of extraordinary practices behind Zappos’s transformation into a profitable and successful company, and how he achieved his life’s goal. From time to time there may be a decrease in the need for motivation in all of us. I’m sure this book will be a great detonator for you.
The Industries of the Future
Alec Ross
In this book, Alec Ross sheds light on today’s most popular and controversial questions.
- What kind of world awaits us after 10 years?
- Will there be a cure for cancer?
- Will robots take our jobs?
- What do we need to do to be successful in competing with robots?
- What will be the professions of the future?
- How should I prepare my child for the future?
- What are the investment areas of the future?
- How will big data change our lives?
Alec Ross, one of the world’s most renowned innovation experts and followers, is trying to predict the future by answering dozens of similar questions in his book Industries of the Future with his travels and experiences as advisers to US President Obama and Hillary Clinton for a long time.
In Ross’s words, this book is not a eulogy to innovation and technology, but rather a book that tries to demonstrate how studies around the world lead us to a world in the future with its pros and cons. Alec Ross, who worked in both the public and private sectors and has gained significant experience in the field despite being in the kitchen of politics, took advantage of his life story and the experience of his generation to predict how societies and states would succeed in the world of the future.
Ross, who has not missed parenting, which he described as the most difficult profession in the world, described in anecdotalities what needs to be done as a tech-age parent. So you can read this book for yourself and your children!
Leaders eat Last: Why Some Teams Pull Together and Others Don’t?
Simon Sinek
Simon Sinek is a follow-up name known for his many books and beautiful speeches in the field of leadership. In this book, Sinek teaches good lessons by telling stories about leadership. In this book, where I recommend that all leaders, whether they are the leader of a small organization or a large, global company, read Simon touches on the important thing in leadership is managing people, not numbers, the impact of the leader’s culture on the culture of the organization, friendship relationships, consistency and many more. I strongly recommend that you read and think about this book, one of my favorite books in 2019, along with Simon Sinek’s other books.
The Perfectionists: How Precision Engineers Created the Modern World
Simon Winchester
Simon Winchester takes us back to England, which introduces the scientific minds that helped modern production (John Wilkinson, Henry Maudslay, Joseph Bramah, Jesse Ramsden and Joseph Whitworth) to the origins of the industrial age. Winchester examines the change of the modern world, technological and social developments from different perspectives and he explores the basic questions. Why is sensitivity important? What are the different tools we use to measure? Who invented what and how did he/she make it perfect? Has the ultra-sensitive quest for many aspects of human life blinded us to other equally important values, such as appreciating and following the traditions of art and culture?
Make sure to add this book to your list, which will allow you to look at the modern world and its development from a different window with interesting questions and teach you so much.
Prepared: What Kids Need for a Fulfilled Life
Diane Tavenner
Those of you who are parents know that raising a child is both a difficult and intenseemotional process, and many books have been written about it. However, Diane Tavenner has written a book that, unlike the others, could be a bedside book for the process, where you can always open and look again. Tavenner uses his book to explain how a child will succeed in his life after high school, filtering his vast experiences at Summit Public Schools, a network of charter schools he founded, from an educator perspective. In our age, when we have many college graduates, I can tell you that after, this work is a guide book to understand how a child, a teenager can make a difference after high school and starting from college life, and our impact on our child as a parent.
