Today is the first day of the new year, and I would like to share and evaluate the technology trends of 2022 and 2023 together in this blog. Let me give you a spoiler before I start: We cannot move to Mars this year either.
We spent part of the last year with the effects of Covid-19, and then we started to move away from some restrictions gradually. While “normalization” accelerated, our “new” habits have begun to shape both social and business lives. For example, hybrid-remote working habits have become the indispensable reality of offices, employers, and employees. According to Gartner, expectations of the 75% of employees in the hybrid-remote working business model have increased for flexible working.
Growth, digitalization, and efficiency became important in the technology trends of 2022. Digital security and digital solutions have shaped the technology trends of the past year. Metaverse, blockchain technology, DAO, DeFi, NFT, cryptocurrency and climate change solutions, and smart city technology were among the technology trends we talked about a lot. You probably hear these concepts frequently, and you may read a lot about them in 2022. Now, we might see these concepts in 2023 as well.
Technology Trends Expectations for 2023
1. More Metaverse
Metaverse, a technology trend that is mostly mentioned in 2022, might be talked about often with different developments this year, too. As you know, the metaverse bridges the virtual world and the real world, and it is giving us the chance to experience both worlds at the same time. It is a concept that will be in our lives more since its popularity and impact are increasing day by day.
With metaverse, there may be more developments in the finance sector. In particular, new companies and services may emerge in areas such as payment processing, authentication, recruiting, and content creation. Distinct developments in the gaming industry can be achieved with the metaverse, so there may be different economic benefits for game companies in the new year.
2. More Sustainable Technology
Sustainability was one of the most attractive topics in the world in 2022. From climate change issues to inequality, we have discussed various worldwide problems included in United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
It is also significant to find solutions to these significant problems with technology. More sustainability-focused technology awaits us in 2023 since the different topics and issues of the world remain still. Finding solutions for these problems with technology will be substantial.
3. More AI Tech and Autonomous System
Advances and developments in artificial intelligence technologies are fast. In 2023, more artificial intelligence technologies and accordingly autonomous systems await us. Thanks to AI technology, we can handle issues and problems with less error. We know that these technologies are vital, especially for the health sector. With the developments in the medical sector, it might be used more.
In addition to the health sector, we will also see AI technology and autonomous systems in our daily lives more! For example, a humanoid robot driven by artificial intelligence, named Tang-yu was appointed as the CEO of a Chinese company. For strategic and critical decisions, artificial intelligence and autonomous systems are crucial to decrease errors. Hence, human and robot interaction might increase more in 2023.
4. AI Trust, Risk and Security Management (AI TRISM)
With the developments of metaverse, blockchain, and NFT, we have started to create identities in the virtual world, and more “monetary” transactions in the virtual world have been done. Therefore, the importance of the concept of cyber security will be mentioned more in this new year because of the security of these virtual identities and actions. For these reasons, Gartner’s “2023 Technology Trends” article addresses more cybersecurity issues and calls it AI TRISM.
The concept of “security” now means virtual security as well as physical security. Hence, the reliability of the AI technologies through which we carry out our transactions becomes a significant issue for us because disruptions in these artificial intelligence technologies or the hacking of information are common problems for all people and companies. Therefore, one of the trends waiting for us in 2023 will be AI reliability, risk, and security management.
5. Superapps
In 2023, we may face the concept of “Super Applications”. According to Gartner’s article on the subject, such trends seek to make a “business model change” possible. In this way, it is possible to reshape the interaction and communication between employees and customers. Due to the growth of virtual markets in digitizing, superapss are among the technology trends in 2023 to enter those markets more.
Superapps mean more than just composite apps that bring services together. This means that a superapp combines the capabilities of an app, a platform, and an ecosystem into a single app. These third parties are provided with an additional platform to develop and publish their own mini-apps. Thanks to these super applications, faster and more transparent transactions by the parties can be one of the focus topics in 2023.
